Hi everyone!
We are very close to the start of our 21 day cleanse... Tuesday September 4, 2012. I wanted to share a few helpful grocery shopping tips so that you can prepare yourself this upcoming weekend!
Before the cleanse starts it would be a good idea to plan meals for the week so you can shop appropriately.
Here are some ideas to help get you started:
- Lemons (lemon water each day requires 1/4 - 1/2 lemon)
- Tons of fresh greens to juice (romaine, spinach, kale, parsley, celery)
- Green Apples (great to add to juice/smoothie and for snacking)
- Cucumber (great to add to juice and/or salads, wraps or snacking)
- Fresh ginger - adds a nice kick to your morning green juice!
- Sweet Potatoes - baked sweet potatoes are extremely healthy & filling! Season as you like or eat plain. (Remember - no butter! If you must you can try a butter replacement like Earth Balance or Best Life "Buttery" Spread)
- Veggies to snack and/or grill - zucchini, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, carrots
- Beans - black beans, cannelloni, kidney beans, chick peas.. great to add to salads or wraps
- Gluten Free Whole Wheat Wraps
- Mixed greens for salads
- Balsamic vinegar for salads and/or grilled veggies
- Hummus - good to add to wraps or to snack with celery/carrot sticks
- Fresh Fruit - great for when your craving a dessert (watermelon is perfect this time of year!)
- Coconut water - extremely hydrating and helps give you variety from regular water
- Decaf Herbal Teas
- Raw unsalted almonds/cashews/walnuts/pecans for snacking
- All natural peanut butter/almond butter
- Dried Fruits - UNSWEETENED - apricots, goji berries, apples, pineapples
- Substitute Sweetener - try agave nectar, honey or stevia
- Avocado - great to add to smoothies, salads, wraps, with veggies or just eat plain!
- Quinoa - hearty grain that can be mixed with anything
- Rolled Oats (gluten free) - cook & mix with fresh fruit, peanut butter and/or sweetener for hearty snack or meal
- Brown/Black Rice - serve stir fry veggies or add to wrap
- Brown Rice Pasta - (ideas: olive oil, garlic, seasoning, fresh basil, chopped veggies)
These are just some simple ideas to get you going. Get creative! The possibilites are endless! You can put just about anything in a salad or mix with grains or in a wrap! The internet makes so many amazing recipes available at your fingertips! One of my favorite sites for recipes is "The Earth Diet".
This is not a cleanse where you starve yourself but instead fill your body with nourishing, healthy, fresh foods!
And remember.. if you haven't already begun to eliminate coffee from your diet you should begin doing so now. This is probably going to be the hardest part of the cleanse (for coffee drinkers) as your body relies on it so much. Once you stop drinking coffee, you can experience headaches; it's best to start now before you get into the cleanse so everything isn't happening all at once. The first few days you will certainly feel different as you rid yourself of sugar, caffeine, animal products and processed foods. It will not be easy but we will all go through it together!
Feel free to message me if you have any questions! If you would like to sign up to the cleanse email list please email me at skinpro118@gmail.com. During the cleanse I will be sending out daily emails with helpful tips, recipes, and support!

Hi everyone!
I mentioned on YouTube this week that I LOVE the book "Crazy Sexy Diet" by Kris Carr. For those who haven't seen the video, check out why I love it here!
Summer is always a time for indulgence... alocohol, BBQs, snacking, parties!! Sadly, Summer is quickly coming to an end and I thought after Labor Day would be the perfect time to cleanse and start fresh for Fall. That being said, I am going to follow along with Kris Carr's 21 Day Cleanse from "Crazy Sexy Diet". I hope that you will join me! I'll be posting helpful recipes, tips and videos of my experience. I would love for us to join together and help eachother out!!
If you don't have the book, I HIGHLY recommend you get it! Not only does it have helpful tips for the cleanse but the book is packed with great information. You still have time to get it! I'm looking to start the cleanse right after Labor Day.
The cleanse looks something like this:
- No alcohol
- No caffeine
- No gluten
- No animal products!! ( that's right - dairy & eggs included!)
- No sugar (substitute agave, honey, or stevia)
- No meds (Unless perscription. Stay away from your go-to advil, tylenol etc)
You start your day like this:
- Upon Waking: Warm water with fresh squeezed lemon
- After starting your day have a big green juice or green smoothie
- Mid morning have a herbal tea (caffeine free, of course!)
* The goal is not to eat solid food before noon. So have a nice 16+oz green juice or smoothie (It will fill you up!!) and drink as much water, coconut water or herbal tea as you want!
I know you are probably thinking... okk looks like I'm going to be starving myself! BUT that is NOT the case!! This is your chance to explore the plethora of fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds and grains available to us. It is going to be tough - but together we can make it through this cleanse!
This cleanse is not only a physical cleanse of ridding toxins from your body but it is an emotional and spirtual journey. Be prepared for the amazing journey this cleanse will take you on!
It is a good idea to start weaning yourself off of things the week before the cleanse. So, next week, it would be a good idea to try some of these things so the cleanse isn't as much of a shock to your body:
- Wean yourself off coffee. Limit yourself to one cup a day, then every other day and eventally no coffee. (This is going to be a tough one - but try replacing with a green juice or herbal tea)
- Cut back on alcohol consumption. Try for only 2 alocholic drinks during wean week. And if possible, choose organic red wine.
- Cut back on meat consumption. Try for no more than 3-4oz. during the week.
- Stay hydrated!! Sipping purified water will help flush your system!
- Phase out dairy and gluten. No more than 3 servings of each during wean week.
- Eliminate processed sugar and refine carbs.
- Double up your intake or greens! Try green juices and green smoothies
I know this is a lot of information to take in but I want everyone to know what they are getting into. If you haven't visited a local health food store like Whole Foods or Trader Joes, I suggest browsing the aisles. You will be surprised how many gluten free, sugar free, vegan goodies you will find. Including breads and pasta!
Stay tuned for more cleanse details coming up! Hope that you will join me!

I wanted to share a very delicious and HEALTHY dessert recipe! And it is so easy it will take you only a few minutes to make.
This recipe has is raw/vegan.. meaning there are NO animals products anywhere in the recipe and it is uncooked, providing you with tons of nutrients! This dessert is so rich and tasty you would never guess what it is made with!
"Chocolate Pudding"
- 2 very ripe avocados
- 1/4 cup cacao powder
- 3/4 cup Agave nectar
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- dash of Himalayan sea salt
- coconut flakes (optional)

In a blender, combine avocados, cacao powder, agave nectar, coconut oil and salt. Blend until smooth and creamy. Serve with coconut flakes and cacao nibs on top. Makes 8 servings. Keep refrigerated. Will keep for about 4 days in fridge - if you don't eat it all by then!
